Petroleum engineering is involved in the exploration and production activities of petroleum at the upstream end of the energy sector. The curiculum in petroleum engineering is intended to prepare students for the petroleum industry and other fields which involve fluids flow through subsurface formations and particularly for those professions which have to do with drilling, production, reservoir engineering and transportation of oil, gas, and other subsurface resources.
CAREER PROSPECTS

Petroleum engineering graduates are in the great demand by oil and gas industry which comprises oil and gas companies, utilities, service companies, engineering consulting firms, or government agencies. Petroleum engineering career scopes include drilling, reservoir, production, facilities engineering, as well as petrophisics.

Other career opportunities for petroleum engineers exist in the research, maintenance, education, management, training, and financial fields. Petroleum engineers often make successful transitions to other aspects of the resource business, becoming entrepreneurs in oil and gas ventures as well as branching off into areas such as groundwater hydrology or subsurface environmental engineering.
